PROPOSED SETTLEMENT: DEFENDANTS WOULD PAY OVER $155,000 IN CONSUMER REDRESS IN WORK-AT-HOME BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY CASE

A recent FTC settlement bars defendants charged with running a fraudulent work-at-home business opportunity from making false claims or helping others in making false claims concerning the advertising, marketing, or sale of any work-at-home business opportunity. It also bars them from misrepresenting any fact material to a consumer's decision to buy goods or services.

In June 2002, as part of "Project Busted Opportunity," FTC filed a complaint against the defendants, alleging that they violated the FTC Act in the sale and marketing of a work-at-home booklet stapling program. Under the proposed settlement, defendants would have to pay over $155,000 in consumer redress and would be barred from making any material misrepresentations in connection with the sale of any good or service.

NOTE: This stipulated final judgment and order is for settlement purposes only and does not constitute an admission by the defendant of a law violation. Stipulated final judgments have the force of law when signed by the judge.
